FSFE Logo The Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) has been awarded the 2010 Theodor Heuss Medal "for its extraordinary work for equitable participation in the information society". Commenting on the award, Karsten Gerloff, President of FSFE, said that "Free Software is an indispensable component of a free society in the digital age. It ensures equal access to the information society for everyone". The yearly award, named after Germany's first post-war president, is presented by the Theodor Heuss Foundation to individuals and organisations that help to foster freedom and democracy.

According to a post on the FSFE Blog, the foundation shared the prize with Oxfam. Oxfam is an international confederation of organisations that help fight poverty and protect human rights around the world.
